Hi! I hope everyone is doing great! We’ve had some exciting months, and I wanted to give you an update.
The biggest piece of news is that Ben and I got new jobs. We will be moving to Hainan Island in the next few weeks. Hainan is the furthest south of China’s provinces. It is east of Hanoi and is a tropical island paradise. Did you see The Meg? The beach scene at the end is in Sanya, Hainan’s tropical beach resort island.
We will be living in Haikou, on the north end of the island, but will still have beautiful views and be able to eat lots of amazing tropical fruit.
In the past six months, we’ve also had the opportunity to travel around China. I’ve been putting together notes on our trips and itineraries, and will slowly update with pictures and information about the trips.
Here’s an overview of what we’ve done and where we’ve been:
September 2018 – three-day weekend to Yangshuo in Guangxi Province and a three-day weekend to Hengshan Mountain Park in Hunan Province
October 2018 – one week in South Korea
December 2018 – I had a five-day trip to Ho Chi Minh City and Vung Tau in Vietnam
January 2019 – Ben visited his parents in Missouri, and we had three days in Shanghai at the end of his trip.
My semester ended right before Shanghai, so I spent the end of the month on Phuket and Phi Phi Islands in Thailand, before meeting Ben in Japan in February. I was able to spend two weeks at home with my parents before heading back to Guangzhou to (very slowly) pack up our apartment in preparation for our big move.
